OOXML Controversy Continues

Key members of a Norwegian standards committee have resigned over the group's decision to reverse itself and support Microsoft's ongoing effort to establish its Office Open XML format (OOXML) as an ISO standard.

This is just the latest in a series of controversies that have erupted over the OOXML adoption process. Critics have charged that Microsoft has unduly pressured national standards bodies to approve the standard, and some have urged that ISO adopt reforms to its fast-track approval procedures as a result.
