About Section 1008
Lansing/Jackson Section 1008 and Capital Quality Initiative Programming
Capital Quality Initiative, at Lansing Community College and your ASQ Section Board have made arrangements for those in ASQ to receive CQI member prices for breakfast or lunch speaker meetings. This supports opportunities for the quality professionals in ASQ to hear about and benefit from other activities which support our professional interests.
When you sign up for a CQI function identify yourselves as ASQ members. CQI will record your name and charge you their membership price. We believe this will add value for both organizations. For a schedule of upcoming events, click on Events on the left panel or the CQI Calendar of Events page at http://www.lcc.edu/cqi/calendar_events/
Letter from the Chair January 2009, Neal Barncard
Amid these challenging times we find ourselves in, there are more demands on our time, and there are more reasons to be anxious about what the future holds than ever before. That said I hope all is well with you and yours. My wish is to help you in anyway I can in my role as the Chairman of the Lansing-Jackson ASQ Section 1008.
For the most part you likely don’t know me from Adam. That is what I want to change first off. I want to get to know you. It is difficult to serve one another effectively when you never get a chance to meet and get to know each other. We may have meet as our paths have crossed living here in Mid-Michigan. I like to stay active in the community serving others. Let me tell you about myself for moment.
For almost 10 years I’ve been employed with the State of Michigan’s Department of Transportation, Airports Division, Project Support Unit as the Engineering Technician. Previous to that, I had experience in retail sales, manufacturing and the military.
I like to be active in the community serving others. My interests have taken me into roles such as a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity; participant in C.E.R.T. (Community Emergency Response Team); member of the Ingham County Environmental Board; candidate for Ingham County Commissioner; and member of the Executive Board of a political party. I’m an active member of my local church as a lay minister. My interest in ASQ in the past three years has taken me to this point as the current Chairman.
This section has been led by many great service-minded men and women. A few of them are serving still as members of the Board now and in other positions in the section. I want to extend to you the opportunity to serve in the section in a role of your choosing. You can take a look at those we have; they are listed on the section’s web-site. I would hope you would take the time and look the list over and choose one or two that sound interesting to you. Come to a section meeting with that type of service in mind and we can work together to set a path of giving you experience in that area of your choosing.
This is your ASQ section, and I want you to know that I’m here and ready to serve you to help you have the experiences that give you the tools and magnify the talents that will make you the person you want to become.
We developed our first partnership last year. It is with the Capital Quality Initiative at Lansing Community College. That partnership started with an idea from one person, like you. If you have any ideas to improve our ASQ section, be it as large or small, I would like to hear about it from you. I want to share your thoughts of how we can all better serve and grow the quality movement in these challenging times. I see Mid-Michigan as ready as ever for new ideas and people committed to fulfill them. I can tell you from first hand experience no organization will succeed in its mission without the involvement of the full allotment of the people that belong to it. If you decide to serve in the section it will take more of your time, but no more than your willing to give. I’m looking forward to serving with you in the months to come. Stay in touch and keep up the good work……
