A good overview of where the quality profession should be standing. I've heard (and been part of) numerous discussions of how quality should now be management related and we should stop being held back by "engineering" - a viewpoint often promoted by consultants who inevitably earn more bucks from coaching managers than their front line workers. This article shows that there's a quality leader who still sees the whole picture. Well done!

I think I understand where you are going. Assuming I do understand, I have to disagree with most of it.
Global warming...last 5 years a decrease in average global temp. NO statistically valid proof it is caused by man. NO scientist HAS EVER proven green house gasses trap heat.
Business ethics...great...according to what or whose standard?
Sustainable economies...what does that mean. The US economy has had a long run but has totally changed from agrarian to industrial to information to...very successful but we sustain nothing, we replace with better.
ecology, I am all for less polution...if that is what you mean, yes a systems approach makes sense.
reciprocity...I know the dictionary definition...I have no idea what you mean by this. Between what parties over what issues?
Quality systems thinking depends on data. Verifiable factual data. I get the impression you would prefer to advance a desired outcome regardless of the facts. If I am wrong, please write another article and address such.
Thanks

thank you for your insights. i believe that what you are talking about is a version of "integrated management" presented, for example in:
Godfrey, A.B. and Kenett, R.S., ???Joseph M. Juran, a perspective on past contributions and future impact???, Quality and Reliability Engineering International, Vol. 23, pp. 653-663, 2007.
