This booklet from the ASQ Statistics Division Basic References in Quality Control series is a primer in the construction of sequential sampling plans. The material presented enables the reader to easily construct such plans to satisfy specified AQL and RQL requirements for binomial, hypergeometric, Poisson, normal, and exponential situations. The booklet demonstrates the savings available from the use of sequential procedures. It contains formulas for both the design of the plan and the construction of OC and ASN curves. Rules are suggested for the inclusion of truncation points and the effect of the truncation on the OC and ASN curves is discussed. A sequential procedure for the comparison of two binomial parameters, which is useful in clinical trials, is described. The ideas presented are all illustrated with simple examples.
