Abstract: [This abstract is based on the authors' abstract.]
Monitoring the mean and variability of a process has traditionally been done using separate X-bar and S charts. Several published studies have shown it is possible to monitor both the mean and variance using a single chart responsive to shifts in either effect. Two new combination charts are proposed that may have performance advantages over the X-bar and S chart pair.
