Abstract: The Iredell-Statesville Schools (ISS) system in southwest North Carolina earned one of three Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Awards granted in 2008. While many factors contributed to ISS receiving the award, the district relied on the plan-do-study-act cycle to get the results it wanted and to encourage innovation. Other factors contributing to the district’s success include numerous partnerships and open communication. Using Baldrige criteria has helped ISS achieve education programs and services that meet the needs of students and stakeholders, as well as effective district operations.
