Abstract: The record flood that engulfed Cedar Rapids, Iowa in June 2008 damaged or destroyed 700 businesses, including the facilities of Cargill Corn Milling North America. Just four months later, however, the company was back to its previous capacity, thanks to its reliance on robust processes. CCM had all the processes in place and was able to use them to respond to a difficult event. The company’s commitment to quality helped it to win the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. A sidebar article provides background information for Cargill Corn Milling North America.
