Abstract: Accurately measuring the value realized from improvement projects is an agenda shared by shareholders, boards of directors, and senior management in every organization. While there are well-developed methods for determining and validating financial results, there has been less work in the area of improvements promised through lean and Six Sigma projects. Audits represent the most well-developed solution to this dilemma. Management systems audits or process audits can be expanded to include a review of the permanency of improvements and actual results. Process auditors will be challenged through this article to assume expanded scope for the betterment of their organizations.
