Abstract: The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is currently revising ISO 19011:2002. In addition to applying lessons learned from the use of the standard for quality management systems (QMS) and environmental management systems (EMS), the ISO systematic review process determined that there would be significant value added if the revision expanded the scope of the standard to other management systems auditing. Such management systems include occupational health and safety management systems (OHSMS), food safety, information management systems security, and ships and maritime technology.
ISO has reformed the ISO 19011 Joint Working Group as Working Group 16 under Technical Committee (TC) 176/Subcommittee (SC) 3 to carry out the revision process. The U.S. participation is being developed by the ANSI Z1 Committee’s Joint Task Group on Auditing (JTG 19011), and includes QMS, EMS, and OHSMS experts.
