Abstract: The recently revised fourth edition of ISO 9001 contains no new requirements, but simply clarifies those in the 2000 version and enhances compatibility with ISO 14001, the environmental management standard. Organizations already certified to ISO 9001:2000 will need to do little to conform to the revision, but can use the opportunity to review their quality management systems and upgrade where needed. A sidebar article explains the provisions of the implementation plan regarding accredited certification from ISO 9001:2000 to ISO 9001:2008.
