Abstract: In 2006, the U.S. Army chose Lean Six Sigma as the continuous performance improvement program to be deployed throughout every command. The Army Medical Command (MEDCOM), having already achieved promising results with LSS implementation in its laboratory areas, welcomed the idea. Consultants helped with MEDCOM LSS executive leadership training that would assure a buy-in at the senior leader level. While preparing the LSS readiness assessment and creating the strategic deployment plan, MEDCOM determined that were resources already in place to begin initial deployment work. By continually reviewing its deployment plan and making mid-course corrections as needed, MEDCOM helped shape Army LSS programs. In the fall of 2008, MEDCOM received the Lean Six Sigma Organizational Deployment Award from the Army.
