Abstract: [This abstract is based on the authors' abstract.] The healthcare industry’s adoption of quality management practices in the early 1990s has led to concern with the measurement of quality provided by hospitals and individual providers. These measures, which are varied and complex, are used to demonstrate the quality and effectiveness of clinical process management. The major types of clinical process and outcome measures are reviewed, and their use in the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award application process is discussed.
