Abstract: An internal audit system can help an organization carry out its strategy and achieve its performance goals. Internal auditing requires the auditor to understand how each process fits into the strategy. Auditors should write up nonconformities and alert the executive team that actions needed to support its strategy are not on track. In addition to notification, the auditor can supply information as to why certain problems exist. The increased scope of the ISO 9001 quality management system coverage has provided new opportunities to transition from a process conformance role to a strategic performance role.
