Abstract: [This abstract is based on the authors' abstract.]
The most solid foundation for sustained business success is built on a culture of excellence. Strategies that target perfection, focus on means, and sustain commitment position an organization for excellence. The degree to which the organization is positioned for excellence can be assessed by determining the organizational aim, the method that will be used to achieve that aim, and what level of commitment is being fostered. The most common organizational aim is improvement, which may appear to be similar to the pursuit of perfection, but which has different cultural and organizational implications. In addition, many methods and commitment levels are compatible with an improvement imperative, yet far fewer are compatible with perfection.
