Abstract: [This abstract is based on the authors' abstract.] Information is vital to every business enterprise. Enterprises constantly generate, use, and exchange information with customers and other stakeholders and make decisions on a daily basis without concern that the information is accurate and reliable. Recent examples of the disastrous effect of information error in the marketplace abound, and in the U.S., the Sarbanes-Oxley Act has made information integrity a requirement rather than a choice. However, recent trends in information technology and the business environment are increasing the urgency of finding new approaches and solutions for achieving information integrity. The concept of information integrity and how its failures lead to information errors is discussed. Also addressed are the risks to businesses arising from information errors and why certain risks must be managed because they cannot be completely eliminated.
