Abstract: [This abstract is based on the author’s abstract.]
There are two sides to software configuration management. On the one hand, developers need the flexibility to do creative work and produce better software solutions. On the other hand, teams need the stability to share code and perform testing in a consistent environment. Risk-based software configuration controls and techniques that can be used to maintain this delicate balance are examined. These techniques include selecting the appropriate type and level of control, selecting the right acquisition point for each configuration item, and using multiple levels of control authority.
