Abstract: Since its inception 20 years ago, Six Sigma has rapidly evolved but hasn’t been accepted everywhere it could be. But as companies look for better ways to do business, the spirit of innovation will drive Six Sigma’s evolution. An examination of Six Sigma evolution from its basic premise to what it is today and what it may become shows that it has evolved to become a business strategy to satisfy customers’ needs. Six Sigma applies the scientific method to obtain knowledge from the process being analyzed. This knowledge gives user the power to solve problems, improve quality or productivity, and reduce cycle time. Together, these elements can come together to form a business strategy.
