Abstract: Conformity assessment and international standards that cover products and quality and environmental management systems provide mechanisms to ensure the quality of goods and services, but a recent survey reveals that the various certification bodies issuing these standards lack process uniformity. The study team used statistical techniques to determine if these inconsistencies undermine the credibility of certification. Information provided by the survey will be used in an attempt to reengineer the accreditation process of these certification bodies, which will ultimately lead to an improvement in the integrity of quality management system certifications.
