Abstract: Caseworkers for the SunCoast Region of the Florida Department of Children and Families won a silver medal in the 2007 International Team Excellence Competition by redesigning its paper based document filing and retrieval system and bringing it into the digital age. The effort has the potential to save Florida taxpayers more than $18 million over time. The region’s solution was adopted throughout Florida, resulting in electronic storage of nearly 1.5 million files. Nationally, officials from more than 40 states have participated in workshops to benchmark the effort.
