Abstract: It has been noted that the strong process and tool-based analysis of the Six Sigma method seems to conflict with the business requirement of creativity in a research and development process. This issue is appropriate for business leaders to consider as they evaluate their approach to a structured program for design as presented by the design for Six Sigma (DFSS) methods. Few of today's organizations can afford to generate endless ideas that never make it to the marketplace. Ideas must be assessed and weighed in order to envision the opportunities they offer and their implications for future performance. This requirement calls for continuous innovation as a business discipline and a systematic process that takes the randomness out of concept generation. The presentation explains how to apply DFSS methods effectively to achieve the objectives of exploratory innovation.
