Abstract: Every business has its own culture that starts slowly and evolves over time as the business becomes more successful and grows. For a small business, it is initially the founder who determines the culture of the firm and the way employees work and interact with the marketplace. With growth, the founder is no longer involved with day-to-day activities of the firm, and it becomes necessary to formally define the firm’s cultural values and to communicate those definitions to employees. Various management methods and tools can help leadership take the necessary action to achieve these goals. As market conditions, technologies, and government policies and regulations change with time, it is necessary for leadership to review the organizational values on a regular basis. These reviews can be made in workshops to discuss, reinforce, and when necessary, update the firm’s values.
