Abstract: Mesa Products Inc., which manufactures and installs cathodic protection systems for underground piping and other metal structures, was the recipient of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality award in the small business category in 2006. Mesa’s quality management system is ISO 9001 based and uses the plan-do-check-act (PDCA) cycle, lean, and Six Sigma. The ISO base QMS combines with the Baldrige criteria at Mesa to bind business processes in an integrated, aligned direction, resulting in performance excellence. Mesa’s actions were a key driver in improving quality in the entire industry. In addition, its overall level of customer satisfaction has greatly surpassed its top competitor and the American Customer Satisfaction Index of energy utilities.
