Abstract: [This abstract is based on the authors' abstract.]
A multi-media program is described that seeks to engage middle school children in engineering design. The central element is a television show, Design Squad, which shows the excitement and enjoyment of teams of high school students engaged in solving engineering challenges posed by real-world clients. Participants use modern components needed to provide the viewing audience exposure to the inner workings of modern technology. Test results with focus groups indicate that dramatizing engineering design can engage an audience while reinforcing key lessons about engineering.
