Abstract: Interested in promoting quality as an agent of profit and prosperity, ASQ asked the Pittsburgh section to participate in a pilot run of the Economic Case for Quality by surveying local business leaders to determine how they perceived the impact of quality on their company’s bottom line. While none of the local section’s mail outs resulted in meetings with CEOs, other approaches, including using inside contacts, resulted in an interview success rate of 30 percent. Overall results were encouraging, but the Pittsburgh section suspects that the people who agreed to meet were already believers in quality. The section plans to follow up its efforts with a CEO focus group to reach out to skeptical CEOs. A sidebar article provides a sample interview script.
