Abstract: [This abstract is based on the author's abstract.]The evolution of the business excellence concept is reviewed, and challenges are identified that are related to the Six Sigma movement and the integration of lean thinking into business operations. Also considered is the need for a better understanding of improved financial performance management through activity-based costing, project management for constrained resource environments, design management for engineering value into products and services, and innovative thinking to encourage change and new concepts. An action agenda is proposed to help the quality movement to manage these transitions.
