Abstract: [This abstract is based on the authors' abstract.]Pakistan's bedwear industry, an important contributor to the country's economy, is facing increasing tariffs and the threat of anti-dumping duties in the export market. The industry has relied on low cost to maintain its competitive advantage. To enhance this competitiveness, it will have to combine low cost with better quality and quick response. A questionnaire sent to 38 bedware manufacturers found that the industry was in various stages of development. The study highlights both the effectiveness and the limits of quality assurance in improving levels of quality that are continually changing in the international trade environment. Pakistan's bedware industry will have to implement advanced quality management practices to remain competitive in today's global marketplace.
