Abstract: [This abstract is based on the authors' abstract.]The failure of many manufacturing management programs has been blamed on partial implementation of the programs and incompatible systems within the plant. Still, past research usually considers manufacturing programs in isolation. A framework is presented for integrating manufacturing programs using total quality management (TQM), just-in-time (JIT), and total productive maintenance (TPM), programs that are considered components of lean manufacturing. The theoretical relationships are explored using structural equation modeling on a sample of 163 manufacturing plants. Together, TQM, JIT, and TPM demonstrate a positive effect on multiple dimensions of manufacturing performance.
