Abstract: [This abstract is based on the author's abstract.]The introduction of international quality awards has increased the importance of self-assessment in the implementation of total quality management initiatives. Models underlying these awards stress the process of organizational learning as a fundamental factor in today's competitive environment. An analysis is made of the manner in which self-assessment application based on the European Foundation for Quality Management Excellence Model facilitates the process of organizational learning. A case study of two Spanish companies with broad experience in self-assessment illustrates the methodology.
