Abstract: [Abstract only.]An overview is provided of Alcoa's global business challenges, business process optimization process, and tenets of a Quality Champion. To provide its customers with the price, quality, and reliability they expect, Alcoa has created the Alcoa Business System (ABS), modeled after the Toyota Production System. ABS is a principle-based system that engages everyone in meeting customer and business needs. Quality champions help Alcoa achieve its goals by articulating attainable milestones, providing a business case for quality, and creating an agenda for process management. Quality champions provide a "safe" learning environment and focus on coaching, learning, and listening.
