Abstract: [This abstract is based on the author's abstract.]Software that is more reliable and built faster and cheaper affects the market share and profitability of a company. These conflicting demands create risk and pressure on individuals that call for a practice that can help manage these demands. Software reliability engineering (SRE) is a widely applicable, low cost practice with little schedule impact. An overview of SRE and its recent use is presented. Current SRE practice is outlined, and some of its adaptations and variations are noted. Resources to help in implementing SRE are listed in a sidebar article.
