Abstract: The vision of the University of Northern Colorado's Monfort College of Business (MCB) was to provide Colorado's best undergraduate business program. To accomplish this, the college eliminated all graduate programs, including the state's largest MBA program, to focus on its undergraduate program. These efforts paid off early when the college became the first public university in Colorado to be accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) in both business administration and accounting. When MCB decided to make a long-term goal toward quality, the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award criteria were chosen because they were consistent with MCB's accreditation and would not detract from its mission. Two years after the school began applying Baldrige principles, MCB became the first business school to earn the Baldrige Award. Student applications are up, and employers are increasingly interested in hiring MCB graduates.
