Abstract: [This abstract is based on the authors' abstract.]Although Six Sigma has been successfully used by many organizations to cut costs, its basic tenets and history have been compared to total quality management (TQM), which is considered by many to be a management fad. Based on the number of articles published by year, a measure of the degree of similarity between the two philosophies was made using the Kolmogorov Goodness-of-Fit test. Results showed significant similarity between the number of TQM and Six Sigma articles that, by the application of analogy forecasting, would indicate that Six Sigma has about seven years left in its life cycle.
