Abstract: [This abstract is based on the author's abstract.] Control and run charts are often the best tool to use when reporting performance information. They demonstrate variation as a means of illustrating what is really going on within a sector, group, or organization. Control charts are becoming more popular among different types of organizations in both service industries and in the public sector. These organizations are demonstrating real benefits in their efforts to better understand and separate common cause and special cause variation through the use of the control chart. Several case studies illustrating the benefits of using control charts are included.
