Abstract: [This abstract is based on the authors' abstract.]Robust designs with dynamic characteristics, also known as signal-response systems, were introduced by Dr. Genichi Taguchi to aid in the design of a system which is sensitive to uncontrollable or noise variation. In practice, they are used to determine control settings which make a systems performance robust over a wide range of input conditions. Existing methods are reviewed here for their analysis and the use of a joint generalized linear model is proposed. The joint model approach is based on standard regression modeling techniques in order for model assumptions to be investigated using residual analysis. An advantage is that it uses all of the data rather than relying on summary statistics. The approach is applicable to a wide range of response types.
