Abstract: [This abstract is based on the author's abstract.] Application of software process improvement models developed for large companies is inappropriate for very small companies. After developing the Software Process Matrix to aid the software improvement process, the author studied the software process in four very small companies, implementing SPM in two while using the other two as controls. Results of the study are presented, followed by a discussion of existing processes and techniques.
