Abstract: [This abstract is based on the authors' abstract. A longer abstract is available on the journal's website] The results of an empirical study investigating the relationship between quality management training efforts and organizational performance in small- to medium-sized manufacturing firms are reported. Findings suggest that training has a significant impact on performance. Family-owned businesses are less likely to conduct training than nonfamily owned businesses, perhaps explaining the relatively high failure rate of family-owned businesses.
