Abstract: Norplex/Oak is a supplier of automotive parts to the Ford Motor Company. In early 1984 a Statistical Process Control (SPC) pilot program was initiated at the main industrial facility of Norplex/Oak located in Postville, Iowa. By implementing SPC, the management has gained valuable information regarding their production capabilities and has achieved several benefits as well as being able to stay in a competitive business which accounts for about $100,000 per year in sales. Due to the success of SPC, the management decided to implement this program at other production facilities.
