To be appropriate for SQP, articles should give readers a working understanding of how software quality practices are used successfully. Support theory with real-world accounts of how to implement the processes described. To the extent possible, use data to demonstrate conclusions.

Articles that debate quality issues may be appropriate for SQP, provided the discussion serves as a basis for improvements in software development and management processes.

Typical article lengths are 4,000-6,000 words.

Suitable articles may take numerous forms, including:

Experience based, “how-to” reports on techniques, tools or issues.
Illustrative case studies.
Topical surveys, including annotated bibliographies.
Practical applications of research results.
Short announcements of concern to software professionals.

Suitable articles also should address the body of knowledge for ASQ-certified software quality engineers:

Ethics.

Software:

Quality management.
Processes.
Project management.
Metrics, measurement and analytical methods.
