Manuscript Review Process

Manuscripts published in Quality Management Journal must first undergo a blind review by two or more referees. The review process takes about three to four months, during which time the reviewers advise the editor regarding the article’s merit for QMJ’s audience and/or make suggestions for improving the article.

Prior to the review process, QMJ’s editor screens each manuscript to verify its appropriateness for formal review. We promptly return manuscripts the editor deems inappropriate for review (not a match for QMJ’s audience or mission).

Articles are based on the following attributes:

  1. Contribution to Knowledge Does the paper present innovative or original ideas, concepts, or results that make a significant contribution to knowledge in the field of quality management and are appropriate to QMJ?
  2. Significance to Practitioners Are the results of practical significance and clearly presented in a fashion that will be understood and meaningful to the principal readership of QMJ: ASQ practitioners?
  3. Conceptual Rigor Is the conceptual basis of the paper (literature review, logical reasoning, hypothesis development etc.) adequate?
  4. Methodological Rigor Is the research methodology (research design, analytical or statistical methods, survey methodology, etc.) appropriate and applied correctly?
  5. Conclusions and Recommendations Are the conclusions and recommendations for further research insightful, logical, and consistent with the research results?
  6. Readability and Clarity Is the paper well organized and presented in a clear and readable fashion?
  7. Figures and Tables Are figures and/or tables used appropriately to enhance the ability of the paper to summarize information and to communicate methods, results, and conclusions?
  8. Organization and Style Is the content of the paper logically organized? Is any technical material (survey scales, extensive calculations, etc.) placed appropriately in an Appendix? Is the title and abstract representative of the article’s content? If not, please clarify what changes should be considered.

Prospective authors should use these attributes as a checklist in reviewing their manuscript prior to submission to improve the likelihood of acceptance.
