The ISO 9000:2000 PSI IDEAS Q&A—Outsourcing-Purchasing Relationship

The IDEAS Q&A is aimed at providing a variety of perspectives on requirements of ISO 9001:2000 and the challenges they present to users. Question 15 is: What is the relationship between control of “outsourcing” as required in Clause 4.1 and what is required in terms of purchasing as defined in Clause 7.4? If an organization uses ISO 9001:2000 registration as the criteria to evaluate a supplier of outsourced processes, would the supplier’s registration be considered sufficient control? If not, what additional activities will be required to satisfy the requirements of Clause 4.1 regarding outsourcing?
