OFEE Promotes Use of ISO 14000 Series in US Government
Edwin Piñero writes that the first non-DoD facility obtained an
ISO 14001 registration certificate in October 2002 as a result of efforts
within the Federal Government that are expected to lead to more EMS registrations
and achievement of a broad program of environmental management initiatives.
Piñero examines how the OFEE has expanded its role from Federal
recycling and "green procurement" to helping Federal agencies
meet a broader range of issues regarding sustainability and enhanced environmental
management. He provides an inside perspective of OFEE and its goals, responsibilities
and accomplishments and a sense of what will be happening in the US government
in the next few years, particularly its use of the ISO 14000 series.
