Goodrich Applies Six Sigma for Safe Landings
Suzan Fischer, Michele Economou-Ureste and Norma Simons write that, while
an ISO 9001:2000-conforming QMS establishes the foundation necessary to
pursue performance improvement, it does not provide the tools to obtain
those improvements. Six Sigma has emerged as a pre-eminent management
tool. Fischer, Economou-Ureste and Simons show how Goodrich Aircraft Wheels
and Brakes relied on the ISO 9001:2000- and AS9100A-registered QMSs in
its facilities to serve as the foundation for continual improvement, using
Six Sigma and other tools to enhance competitiveness and reduce costs
while fulfilling CI requirements.
