Economics Having Impact, But Beware the Customer!

THE OUTLOOK conducted a survey of registrars regarding the ISO 9001:2000 transition and related issues. While some registrars have seen a small number of 1994 certificate lapses, most expect only a few clients to not make the transition. Nevertheless, expect fewer ISO 9001:2000 certificates than 1994 ones and slower registration growth rates than the pace of the mid-1990s. And a large North American registrar warned against transition complacency, since the registrar has already seen indications that customers that are no longer demanding supplier registration may turn around at the last minute and expect their suppliers to be transitioned by the deadline.
