DaimlerChrysler Sets July 2004 Tier 1 Deadline
Four months after ISO/TS 16949:2002 was published and just
before the release of a joint letter from the Big Three stating
that the TS will replace QS-9000 in December 2006, DaimlerChrysler
issued a letter requiring its suppliers worldwide to transition
to ISO/TS 16949:2002 by July 1, 2004. The deadline affects
3,000 QS-9000-registered Tier 1 suppliers to the Chrysler
Group and suppliers to those Tier 1s, which will need to obtain
ISO 9001:2000 registration. While Russ Hopkins confirms that
Fords suppliers have between now and December 2006 to
transition, Hank Gryn discusses the reasons for DaimlerChryslers
early deadline, what the mandate means for suppliers and the
impact TS 16949 will have on registration. Copies of the DaimlerChrysler
and joint Big Three letters are included.
