EPA Ratifies Support of EMS Use in US Firms and EPA

With the US EPA expecting to achieve its first registration to ISO 14001:1996 in autumn 2002, Administrator Whitman signed two statements that formally ratify what had been the Agency’s unofficial positions and policies on EMS use. Although the documents do not establish financial or regulatory incentives, they publicly declare EPA support for the use of EMSs by US organizations and a commitment by EPA to use EMSs in its own facilities.
