UKAS Imposes Registrar Moratorium; NAP Investigates
On April 22, UKAS imposed a moratorium on new registration
activities outside the UK involving the issuing of ISO 9000
and ISO 14001 certificates bearing the UKAS accreditation
mark. This dramatic action is in response to complaints from
Chinese authorities concerning the practices of foreign registrars
operating in the PRC. The moratorium was imposed pending a
UKAS investigation of the claims to be completed by the end
of July 2002. In addition, ANSI-RAB NAP has launched an investigation
of three NAP-accredited registrars operating in China after
receiving a report in February. Copies of the announcements
are provided.
