TS 16949:2002: Auto QMS Specification Hits Bump in Road in US

The US TAG to ISO/TC 176 has decided to vote to "disapprove with comment" on TS 16949:2002 in international balloting that will conclude on December 14, 2001. The likelihood is that the TS will receive approval eventually, although it would not be available by March 1, 2002, if the present final draft does not receive 67% approval. A meeting of US TG 18 on September 26 did not indicate any significant objections to the final draft of TS 16949:2002, but subsequent review by members and the leadership of TG 18 revealed several concerns that were considered significant enough to merit a vote of disapproval. An examination of the US issues, a reprint of the US position paper and a look at the risks of the US vote of disapproval and the next steps in the TS process are provided.
