A Look at ISO/FDIS 9001:2000 and Changes Since the
DIS
On September 14, 2000, ISO/FDIS 9001:2000 began to circulate
for a vote of approval as an ISO standard. Jeanne Ketola and
Kathy Roberts, authors of ISO 9000:2000 In a Nutshell,
write that this second revision of ISO 9001 since it was first
published in 1987 represents a far more significant revision
of structure and approachand involved more attention
to user needs. They compare the FDIS with the DIS (the intent
of the standard has not changed) and provide an overview of
the requirements in the five sections of ISO/FDIS 9001 that
specify QMS requirements and emphasize the new process approach
to quality management.
