Case StudyTellabs: TL 9000 Registration Seen
to Offer Global Competitive Benefits
On January 25, 2000, Tellabs obtained TL 9000 registration
at its Round Rock, TX, manufacturing facility as part of the
QuEST Forums TL 9000 Pilot Program. Tellabs viewed the
Pilot Program as an opportunity to support the validation
of TL 9000 within a unique scope of registration, enhance
its relationships with its customers and obtain a level of
comprehension that will help measure performance. TL 9000
registration at the Texas facility was built on a foundation
of ISO 9002 and CSQP registrations, which allowed implementation
to focus on the TL 9000 "adders". Dara Mohtadi of Tellabs
Product Assurance Department provides a look at the Round
Rock facilitys TL 9000 Pilot Program process and results,
including the issues involved in determining its registration
scope and the 11 steps Tellabs engaged in once senior management
committed to the Pilot Program. Tellabs key message is that
TL 9000 is a customizable, flexible set of requirements suitable
to many types of organizationsincluding internal suppliersbuilds
on a foundation of ISO 9001/2/CSQP and provides benefits needed
by the telecommunications industry and desired by other sectors.
