Integrating ISO 9001 and ISO 14001: An Auditor’s View

Terry A. Mors writes that many organizations have considered developing an EMS that can be integrated into the existing QMS. But they must first face several important–and confusing–questions about creating an IMS, how integrating QMS and EMS elements will affect their registrations and the ability of auditors to verify conformance with the requirements of the standards. There are issues an organization should consider in deciding what degree of integration will best suit its operations, and Mors looks at three options used in setting up ISO 9001- and ISO 14001-based management systems and provides information and guidance on and tools for the auditing of these three options.
